Shaji, father of Mishel Shaji Varghese, the 18-year-old student who was found drowned in Kochi’s Willington Island, met Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday seeking to find answers to her mysterious death.

He met the CM at his room in the Legislative Assembly. “I sought to uncover the mystery in the death of my daughter. He has promised that all possible steps would be taken to book the culprit. I have faith in the Special Investigation Team formed to probe the case,” Shaji told reporters.

“The chief minister also promised to examine the lapses from the part of the police in the initial investigation. No parents should ever face what we are going through now,” he said. Shaji also met opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala. Piravom MLA Anoop Jacob and former legislator from Piravom Johny Nelloor were also with Shaji.

Mishel Shaji, a Chartered Accountant aspirant, went missing on March 5 and according to reports was last spotted at St Antony’s Church in Kaloor, Ernakulam. In a new development, a native of Kochi who was an eyewitness, on Tuesday said that he had seen a woman resembling Mishel on the Goshree bridge in Kochi on March 5.

In the beginning of the investigation, police held the view that it was a case of suicide which the parents refused to accept. Police have arrested Cronil Alexander Baby, a distant relative of Mishel, for abetment to suicide.
