Man beaten to death in Kerala, act of moral policing or genuine misunderstanding?

The man was then dumped into a residential compound where he succumbed to injuries late in the night.However, what is unclear is the motive behind the attack. News reports suggest that Prabhakaran, 55, was assaulted by a group of men in a bid to moral police as he had been visiting a woman. The police however claim that the attackers thought he was a thief as they had found Prabhakaran's presence near a house in Kulakalloor, Cherpulassery Sunday late evening suspicious.“The place has been witnessing many thefts in the recent past and people have been very vigilant. The men thought Prabhakaran to be a thief and assaulted him. After the assault they dumped his body in a nearby residential compound.
