Mammootty launches initiative to tackle water crisis in Kerala

Written by : TNM Staff

As the summer heat has begun to take a toll on people’s lives and with a heat wave warning issued for Kerala, actor Mammootty chaired a meeting to discuss ways to tackle the water crisis in the state.

An initiative ‘Own your water’ was launched at the meeting held on Thursday in Kochi, in order to ensure self-sufficiency in water resources.

According to reports,  the intention of the programme is to make every household self-sufficient so that the responsibility of handling such crisis does not weigh heavily on the government.

The programme attempts to make water available for people who face water crisis through a shared programme involving tankers. The pragramme, launched with the cooperation of the district administration, will have a dedicated number for this purpose. Plans to rejuvenate water bodies and steps for water conservation for long-term benefit would also be formulated.

Measures would be taken for the installation of water kiosks in Kochi that could be later replicated in other districts as well.
