Actor Mammootty has donated Rs 1 lakh for the medical treatment of Lekha Namboothiri from Alappuzha, a woman inspired by one of the actor’s films to donate her kidney. Lekha had been hospitalised recently for surgery on her spinal cord.

Lekha, inspired by Mammootty’s 2009 film “Loudspeaker”, had donated one of her kidneys, free of cost, in 2012. This philanthropic gesture had drawn much media attention at the time.

More recently, Lekha was once again in the news, because of her deteriorating health condition owing to a spinal cord problem. Upon hearing of her situation, Mammooty came forward to offer financial assistance to Lekha prior to her surgery on Friday.

According to reports, the Managing Director of Pathanjali Herbal Extracts Private Limited Dr K Jyothish Kumar handed over Rs 1 lakh to Lekha on behalf of the actor.

Lekha is also reported to have spoken to Mammootty over the phone, and to have received a promise that the actor would meet her in person in the near future.
