Malnutrition: Three infants die in Kerala's Attapady

A seven-day-old baby infant, son of RInky and Murugan from the Kottamala tribal settlement died while undergoing treatment at the Coimbatore Medical College hospital. Two other infants born with deformities died instantly after they were delivered at hospitals on the same day.With the death of three infants, the toll of malnutrition deaths has touched 13 in Attappady, one of the largest tribal settlements in the state, since January 2014“Premature birth and malnutrition in mothers are main reasons behind these deaths “says Dr Jagadeesh, officer from Directorate of Health Service, KeralaA total of 73 children including newborn babies died in Attappady during 2012-13 period due to malnutrition and other reasons
