Main accused sentenced to 25 years in prison for running sex racket in Kerala with minor relative

Kottayam Additional District Sessions Court (special) on Friday sentenced the main accused in the Poovarani sex racket case Lissy to 25 years of imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs.4 lakh.

The other accused are Jomini, her husband Jyothish, Mini alias Thankamani, Satheesh Kumar and Raji. The second, third and fifth accused has been awarded six years of rigorous imprisonment with Rs.25,000 penalty.
 

According to reports, a class 8 student of Pala Saint Mary’s school was subjected to abuse from August 2007 to May 2008 by her relatives, who took her to other men. The girl was then afflicted with AIDS and later died at a hospital in Theni medical college hospital.
 

The court had on Thursday, found six accused including the main accused Lisy- the girl’s aunt-guilty, and acquitted five others in the case. A total of 12 people were accused in the case, but the 10th accused committed suicide while the trial was going on.
 

The trial that began in 2014 was completed over a period of two years.
