Months after senior police officer Loknath Behera lost his position as state DGP to TP Senkumar, the former will be back as the top cop soon. 

The decision to appoint Behera was taken by the state cabinet that met on Wednesday, in view of Senkumar retiring on June 30. 

The state cabinet approved the decision by a committee headed by Chief Secretary Nalini Netto. 

Behera, a 1985 batch IPS officer, currently heads the Vigilance and AntiCorruption Bureau. 

In 2016, Behera was appointed the state DGP by the newly elected LDF government, after it ousted the then DGP Senkumar citing poor performance. 

However, following Senkumar's battle at the Supreme Court against the state government on his indiscriminate removal, the apex court had asked the government to reinstate him. 

Senkumar was reinstated in May this year as DGP, while Loknath Behera assumed office as Vigilance Chief on May 9.

“I will act to the best of my capacity. There are certain things which I have left unfinished, I will finish those. There will be a slight a change in the style of functionin,” Loknath Behera told the media. "Controversies haven't affected me. There may be differences of opinion or controversies may emerge during course of investigations, that don't affect me. Kerala police is number one in policing at present, that should continue," he added.
