The Kerala Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau on Thursday received legal opinion that there wasn’t enough evidence to prosecute Finance Minister KM Mani in the bar license renewal bribery case. Vigilance Legal Advisor CC Augustine has reportedly submitted his opinion to the ADGP Jacob Thomas in a sealed cover. According to The New Indian Express, the advisor opined that the probe team failed to provide proof that Mani had demanded a bribe or his alleged acceptance of the bribe and hence there was no scope for prosecution. The advisor also said that differences of opinion among the office-bearers of the Kerala Bar Hotels Association would weaken the case. The statement of Ambil, complainant Biju Ramesh’s driver, could be challenged in court as he was an employee of Ramesh, the legal advisor has said. The case  against Mani was registered in October last year after a whistle-blower bar owner, Biju Ramesh, alleged that the Kerala Bar Hotel Owners Association paid Rs 1 crore to the minister for re-opening of the closed bars in the state.
