Left unity gone, LDF just an opportunistic alliance: Congress Kerala President MM Hassan

Written by : IANS

The Congress on Sunday praised the manner in which the CPI conducts itself politically said it was "a very practical party" unlike the CPI-M.

M.M. Hassan, President of the Kerala Pradesh Congress in Kerala, told reporters in Thiruvananthapuram that everyone had seen that the differences between the Communist Party of India and the Communist Party of India-Marxist were worsening.

"In the past few days we saw the top leaders of these two parties taking on each other. From our experience, we can say that the CPI is a party which always shows political maturity in its actions and deeds. They do not have any false pretensions," said Hassan. He added that the Congress had shared power in Kerala with the CPI and they have had the best of relations always and hence it was in a position to say this.

"The situation has come to a stage that the ideological difference between these two parties in Kerala have reached a point of no return," he said. "The so-called Left unity appears to have gone out of the window. What now remains is an opportunistic alliance to share power," said Hassan. But he denied that the Left coalition was on the brink of collapse.
