LDF supporters lay siege at secretariat, demand KM Mani’s resignation

The Left Democratic Front supporters on Wednesday began a siege at the Secretariat and District collectorates demanding the resignation of Kerala finance minister KM Mani in the wake of alleged bribery charges against him.CPI(M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan accused leaders of the United Democratic Front (UDF) of demanding bribes and added that the protests would only end with the resignation of Mani, who faces allegations of taking bribes to grant licenses to bars in the state. The finance minister had defended himself earlier, in a press conference, stating that the allegations against him were baseless.The left supporters laid siege at four gates of the secretariat including the cantonment gate, on the early hours of Wednesday at around 5 am. They also stated that no officer would be allowed to enter the collectorate building.In Kozhikode, CPIM leader Elamaram Kareem led the siege by protesting at the civil station and Public Works Department (PWD) office. Meanwhile, Left MLA V. Sivankutty along with other activists has been arrested in Thiruvananthapuram for trying to block the cantonment gate road near the Secretariat.
