LDF to hold public meetings across state to explain its stand on Sabarimala verdict

“Protests in the Sabarimala issue, in the name of faith, is a move to topple the Left Democratic Front government,” said the LDF convener A Vijayaraghavan. He alleges that the RSS, BJP and the United Democratic Front, led by the Congress, are behind this.

“The protest has deviated to the extent that people on the street, in the name of faith, ridicule the Chief Minister. Some ministers are being blocked on roads. Instead of upholding the Constitution, people are being misled. The government is committed to executing the Supreme Court verdict," he said in a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday.

The LDF, headed by the CPI (M), is the ruling coalition in the state.

Vijayaraghavan said that the LDF will organise public explanatory meetings from October 16 on the entry of women of all ages into Sabarimala temple. Ministers, including Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, will take part in the meetings.

He says that UDF is probably tired of the credibility and social acceptance of the state government.

“Both the BJP and RSS are trying to misguide the devotees. Congress standing with the BJP in this matter is suicidal. The Congress became ready to be part of the march led by the BJP to taint the image of the government. The opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala tells his party workers to be part of the BJP and RSS. This move by the Congress is so precarious in the national political situation. The CM had made it clear, with examples, that the government is bound to execute the Supreme Court judgement. Despite this, the protests are happening in such a way that it is unleashing atrocities, and this is too dangerous. It is in this backdrop that the LDF has decided to organise mass public meetings to explain the women entry issue," he said.

On October 16, the CM will take part in the meeting to be held in Thiruvananthapuram. Explanatory meetings will also be held in district centres by the month end. “Family meetings and public meetings will be held even at the panchayat levels," he said.
