A 19-year-old woman who was allegedly gangraped in a car by three men in Kochi has raised suspicion that she was perhaps drugged. According to the police, the young woman reached Fly High, a lounge bar of Harbour Residency hotel in Kochi’s MG Road around 10pm along with her friend Dolly, a native of Rajasthan.
She consumed two glasses of beer and felt uneasy as she was on her second drink. Inside the bar, three men joined the two women, and they were Dolly’s friends according to the survivor.
Police said that as per the survivor’s statement, when Dolly took her to the parking space outside the hotel she had already passed out.
The two women then went towards a Mahindra Thar jeep. As per the complaint, Dolly made the woman get inside the vehicle and stepped away saying she would be right back. After which the vehicle left the hotel immediately and the woman alleged she was raped by the three men inside the vehicle.
Speaking to Asianet News, the survivor said that she was too scared to lodge a complaint. Even when the men along with her stopped at a restaurant to eat dinner, she was panicking and could not reveal anything to people around.
The woman in her complaint says that when the vehicle went back to the hotel, Dolly joined them. But here too, she could not tell Dolly about her trauma. The survivor was dropped off in front of a hotel in Kakkanad.
“There were three boys with my friend, I did not know them. I just knew Dolly. I am not sure whether she was trapping me,” the survivor said.
Kochi City police commissioner CH Nagaraju told the media that all the accused in the case have been arrested. “We are investigating the individual roles of the accused in this case. We are looking into whether this was a planned crime,” the officer said.
Four persons – Vivek, Nithin, Dolly and Sudhi – have been arrested by the Kochi police. They will be produced before a court on November 19, Saturday. The survivor who is currently under treatment in Kalamassery Medical College, is a model from Kasaragod district.
