Kerala's cherished revolutionary song 'Balikudeerangale' turns 57

The News Minute| August 12, 2014| 9.20 pm ISTIn 1957 as the Kerala government lead by EMS Namboodiripad inaugurated a memorial for the revolutionaries who laid their lives down in India’s first war of Independence in 1857, Kerala was gifted with a song. A song that people of the state have cherished for generations.‘Balikudeerangale’ the spirited tribute to martyred revolutionaries penned by Vayalar Ramavarma and composed by Devarajan Master has been an inspiration for many years to people who have taken part in protests, marches and Kerala’s political journey.It is called Kerala’s first group revolutionary song and as the legendary song turns 57, a tribute is being organized in Thiruvananthapuram at the ‘Raktha Sakshi Mandapam’ on Thursday.
