In a shocking incident in Kollam, a 40-year-old woman was stabbed to death by a man in broad daylight on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Shajila, a resident of Anjukunnu in the Kundara police jurisdiction in Kannur.

“On Wednesday morning, the deceased was dropping off her younger daughter at school and returning home when the accused - 32 year old - Aneesh Kutty who is her neighbour stabbed her with a knife. He was arrested on the spot by the police,” Kundara station CI Ramesh Kumar told TNM.

Aneesh had been waiting on his bike with a knife in hand on the road near their house, to stab the deceased as she returned from school, the police added. Both the accused and the deceased lived 5 minutes away from each other.

The deceased sustained injuries on her chest, hands, legs, stomach and neck and collapsed to death on the spot. According to reports, the accused Aneesh entered a neighbouring house after stabbing the deceased and washed the knife he had used for the murder.

He was later nabbed by the police from the spot, after onlookers informed the Kundara police station.

“We are still investigating the exact reason for the murder. The accused and the deceased were close earlier and had had a rift recently. This could have been the motive behind the murder,” Kundara CI added.

A case has been registered under section 302 (murder) against the accused Aneesh Kutty and he has been remanded to judicial custody, the police confirmed to TNM.
