Over the last two months, 400 water supply connections were snapped and over Rs. 7 crore was levied as fine, the Times of India reported."In Kochi, defaulters owe around Rs 120 crore. That's why we started such an unprecedented drive to disconnect water supply," said KWA executive engineer V Prasad.Apart from private restaurants and households, the defaulters’ list also included the state-owned BPCL’s petrol pump in Kochi. There are over 7,000 defaulters of which over 5,000 owe the water authority more than Rs. 50,000 each. Close to 70% of the defaulters had paid their dues after the authorities sent them notices to pay or face disconnection and revenue recovery proceedings.   The KWA officials say that the Electricity Board’s policy of disconnecting the power supply the very next day after the bill due date lapsed was effective and that they would adopt the same policy.
