In a shocking incident, a two-year-old girl was allegedly killed by her uncle in Balaramapuram, Thiruvananthapuram district, on Thursday, January 30. The child, identified as Devendu, was initially reported missing in the early hours of Thursday. However, the case took a grim turn when her body was discovered in a well within the house premises.
During police interrogation, the child's uncle, Harikumar, confessed to the crime, reports said.
According to reports, Devendu, the younger daughter of Sreejith and Sreethu, went missing around 5 AM. A search operation involving the police, fire and rescue officials, and local residents led to the recovery of her body from the well.
Following this, police questioned multiple family members, including Sreejith, Sreethu, the child's maternal grandmother Ragini, and Harikumar.
While Harikumar admitted to the killing, his motive remains unclear, reports suggest .
Sreethu, who works as a temporary employee at the Devaswom Board, resides separately with her two children. Sreejith, employed at a supermarket, visits occasionally. A few days ago, following the demise of Sreethu’s father, Sreejith had come to the house for post-funeral rites. The family slept together in a room on Wednesday night, and the child was found missing in the morning.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that police are also probing Sreethu’s possible involvement, suspecting she may have instructed Harikumar.
