The Kerala State Education department has decided to cancel the SSLC Mathematics examinations held on March 20, as it was revealed that many of the questions which appeared in the paper were a repetition of those from the model exam paper which was held last month.

A meeting chaired by Education Minister C Raveendranath on Saturday decided to cancel the SSLC mathematics examination and conduct a re-examination on March 30.

It was revealed that about 13 questions got repeated from the model examination paper, which was prepared by the Malabar Education Research Institute Society at Areekode in Malappuram district. This agency usually prepares questions for model exams.

Reports state that Pareeksha Bhavan joint commissioner, who probed the issue, has reported to the Director of Public Instructions that the teacher who prepared the mathematics question paper for the SSLC examination had links with the private institute in Malappuram.

The education minister has reportedly asked educational secretary Usha Titus to conduct a detailed enquiry and initiate action against the teacher who set the questions. The Minister told media that exams were cancelled for the better future of the students.

The decision came following several allegations against the SSLC examinations. There were reports that since Higher Secondary teachers were assigned to set High School question papers, it created chaos. Students have alleged that many questions were not from the syllabus, and they found it too difficult.

The Opposition have alleged that this chaos showed the inefficiency of the government.
