Now, with the click of one button Kudumbashree products can come home to you.

Kudumbashree is the Kerala government’s women empowerment programme. In its latest venture, the initiative has started the portal www.kudumbashreebazaar.com to sell the products made by Kudumbashree workers online.

The portal was launched on Wednesday, and was inaugurated by Local Self-Governments Minister KT Jaleel at the state capital.

Talking to TNM shortly after the launch, the programming manager of the mission, Sabhu said that the website is already seeing traffic and orders have already been placed.

“We have already received about 10 orders and the initiative was only launched recently. We are in the process of equipping workers with the necessary skills to handle the portal. We are very confident about this mission,” said Sabhu.

Kudumbashree has also signed an MoU with the Postal Department to create a delivery mechanism similar to other online shopping portals.

The portal has been developed by Street Bell Private Limited.

“Kudambashree has about 250 units in all and we are arranging the delivery system in collaboration with the Postal Department. We are even developing a mobile app and will be in service soon. The customers will have facilities to track their ordered products and a hassle-free service is promised,” said Sabhu.

The website will also feature a central payment gateway instead of creating one for every entrepreneur.

According to Sabhu, the website creates a permanent platform for Kudambashree products.

“I have to say that our products are already very well-received and are very much in demand among customers. Most people prefer home-made products. But what we sort of lacked is a permanent platform to market these goods,” said Sabhu.

“Sales was always limited to a monthly or a weekly affair – at exhibitions or melas. An online portal gives a permanent platform to sell our goods,” he added.

Considering the growing demand of the products, Sabhu also said they are working on setting up shopping complexes exclusively for Kudumbashree products.

“We are planning to start shopping complexes in all the district headquarters across the state. There is an ever-increasing demand for home-made products that people trust in the market,” said Sabhu.
