Kerala MLA gets emotional in assembly; speaker passes a motion to get him married

How many times have we complained that out politicians simply do not care about our environment? That they are selfish? That they don’t have a sense of humour?

All of that was proved false in the Kerala assembly.

In an unusual incident, Kunnathur MLA Kovoor Kunjumon was explaining the pathetic condition of a lake in his constituency at the Kerala assembly, when he got emotional. This led to an informal motion in the state assembly asking him to get married. This also prompted the chief minister and Opposition leader to persuade him to tie the knot.

In the assembly on Friday, Kunjumon explained the necessity of cleaning Shastamkotta lake at the earliest. He said the lake was just like his lover and unless it is beautified he will not get married.

In reply, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the government will take immediate steps to clean and protect the lake. But Pinarayi asked Kunjumon not to wait until then for his marriage. CM also asked all assembly members to urge Kunjumon to get married.

Meanwhile, Speaker Sreeramakrishnan also declared that this can be an unofficial motion and asked members to support it.

Later, Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala and the CM asked the MLA to promise that he would get married soon, which he finally did.
