After continuous efforts from advocates in Kerala High Court to block journalists from reporting from courts, the Kerala High Court has clarified that there can be no ban on the media reporting on open court proceedings.

The court also said that the decision regarding access to judges’ chambers to collect judgments will be decided by individual judges.

A press note released by HC says, “Individual judges will be at liberty to decline access to any person to their offices,” The Times ofIndia reports.

The High Court registrar in the press note says that nobody has banned journalists from entering or reporting from court.

The HC also directed to constitute a panel consisting of four judges to formulate a code for press and electronic media in court reporting.

HC Judges Antony Dominic, PR Ramachandra Menon, K Surendra Mohan and CK Abdul Rahim will be a part of the media panel.

“The panel will look into the issue by framing guidelines to provide prompt and easy access to judgments and orders for the journalists,” the press note says.
