Kerala man missing for 40 years appears in a Dubai hospital

The News Minute | October 22, 2014 | 3.15 pm ISTMalayalee who had gone missing forty years ago was found in a hospital in Dubai on Friday.Abdulla Punattil Usman alias Baputty, hailing from Chavakkad in Thrissur district of Kerala had gone missing in 1974. He is currently in a hospital in Dubai receiving treatment for his diabetes infected leg, the Indian Express reported.His relatives have been able to recognize him because he was able to recollect most small incidents that had happened in his life while he was in his Kerala village. Haneefa, his nephew says that he is “201 per cent sure” that the man is his uncle. Baputty’s friends say that they met him 23 years back in Dubai working in an Arab’s house. “But he was always vague whenever we asked him about his family” and he never wanted to go to India, his friend says.However, Baputty spoke out about his family when he was forced by his friend to reveal the truth when he was going to be admitted in the hospital. It was the friends who got in touch with Baputty’s family in Kerala. The Consul General of India in Dubai has said that financial assistance for Baputty to return to India will be provided.
