Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday said that a special investigation team constituted to investigate the blast at Malappuram collectorate will begin probe into the matter. 

Narcotic DySP PT Balan will head the team.

On Tuesday, the police recovered a pen drive and a note claiming that the Base Movement was responsible for the low-intensity blast at the premises.

The police confirmed that the same group was responsible for the blast in Kollam court in June and for blasts in court premises in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. 

The NIA team headed by DySP Abdul Khader is also investigating the case. 

Malappuram range IG MR Ajith Kumar told journalists in Malappuram that the police have examined the contents of the pen drive retrieved from the blast site. 

“Considering the evidence we have retrieved from this site, it indicates that similar blasts were carried out by the same group. All the other cases are also under investigation. All these blasts were designed in such a way that there were no injuries,” he was quoted as saying by the media.

Elaborating on the pamphlet and the visuals from the pen drive, the police said that they have ascertained the involvement of a single group in all the blasts. The visuals had indications of the previous blasts carried out in different places, Ajith Kumar said. He added that the group has warned of more such blasts in the future, but said that there was no reason to panic. 

“This is the second incident in Kerala and measures to prevent such attacks will be made,” Ajith Kumar reiterated. 

Meanwhile, following a meeting with officials, district collector Shainamol, has decided to install CCTVs at all entrances to the collectorate.
