In a shocking late-night incident in Kerala’s Nedumbassery, a 24-year-old chef lost his life after being struck by a car and being dragged on its bonnet for nearly a kilometre. The car was allegedly driven by two Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel with whom the chef, Irvin Jijo, reportedly got into a road dispute at around 11.30 pm on Wednesday, 14 May.

According to the Nedumbassery police, both vehicles were heading in the same direction on Wednesday night. Irvin, a resident of Ernakulam’s Thuravoor, attempted to overtake the officers’ car but was denied passage. This led to a confrontation during which Ivin stepped out and stood in front of their vehicle.

In a horrifying turn of events, the CISF officers allegedly accelerated their car, hitting Ivin and causing him to fall onto their car’s bonnet. They then reportedly drove ahead, with Irvin clinging onto the vehicle for nearly a kilometre. He eventually fell off and sustained grievous injuries, following which he was rushed to a nearby hospital, but declared dead during treatment.

The accused CISF officers — Sub-Inspector Vinayakumar and Constable Mohanan — both posted at the Cochin International Airport, fled the scene following the incident. They were later taken into custody.

In an official press statement, R Ponni, Deputy Inspector General, Airport South Zone, Chennai, confirmed the involvement of the CISF personnel.

"An unfortunate incident occurred on 14.05.2025 in which two CIS personnel are reported to be involved. Considering the seriousness of the matter, both personnel have been immediately suspended, and a senior officer is conducting an internal inquiry, which will be completed in a time-bound manner," the statement read. "We are fully cooperating with the Kerala Police to ensure prompt action. CISF is committed to upholding the highest standards of conduct. Strict disciplinary action will be taken based on the outcome of the findings,” the statement said.

Aluva Rural Superintendent of Police Hemalatha addressed the media on Thursday, 15 May, stating that the arrest has not yet been registered. "Two persons who are under suspicion are under our surveillance. We are gathering more evidence. The arrest has not yet been registered," she said.

She also confirmed that the CISF officers hail from Bihar.
