The Thiruvananthapuram Museum police on Monday arrested prominent businessman Rajmohan Pillai, 58, for allegedly raping and impregnating his house maid, who hails from Odisha.

Rajmohan is the younger brother of Rajan Pillai, popularly known as ‘Biscuit Baron’,  who died in Tihar jail in 1995 after he was arrested in a fraud case.

He was booked under Section 376 of IPC for rape.

Rajmohan is a well-known cashew exporter, who owns business firms that manufacture and market packaged and processed food.

The incident came to light when the 23-year-old Odisha woman approached a private hospital in the city to get an abortion.

She was reportedly sent there by Rajmohan along with his friend.

The doctor she consulted got suspicious and he asked his colleague from Odisha to talk to the woman.

It was then revealed that the woman was not married and she was sexually abused. The hospital then informed the police, reports The Times of India.

Museum circle inspector J Dinil told The News Minute that the woman was working in Rajmohan’s house for the past few months.

“After being informed by the hospital, we questioned her and it was revealed that she was working as house help and got raped, impregnated. We have done the medical examination and confirmed the same. However, the accused has not yet admitted to the crime. He was arrested on Monday and later remanded in judicial custody on Monday evening,” he said.

The woman has been shifted to a shelter home.
