The newborn that was kidnapped by a woman from a government hospital of Pathanamthitta has been found by the police. The baby was kidnapped on Thursday.

On Saturday, police arrested Leena and her husband Aneesh, from whose house in Ranni Vechoochara, the baby was found.

Aranmula Police told The News Minute that Leena kidnapped the infant as the couple did not have kids.

“She had hatched the plot for the kidnap by roaming around the hospital for two days. She had observed the situation well before committing the crime,” said one of the police officers.

Pathanamthitta police chief B Ashokan told media that the couple did not have children and this was the reason they planned to kidnap the infant.

The infant’s father Saji told media that the lady took away the baby from him, on the pretext of being a staff of the hospital.

“The baby was with me as his mother had gone to take a bath. Then she came to me, pretending to be the hospital staff and said that the infant has to be fed. She said that she will take the baby to his mother inside and so I gave her the baby,” Saji said.

Police retrieved the CCTV visuals on Friday which showed the woman taking the baby from the father and going inside the room. Then, she can be seen walking out of the hospital with the baby in her hands.

The inspector said that the police checked lakhs of phone calls in this case.

The infant reportedly has no health issues.
