Kerala actor abduction: Actor Aju Varghese arrested for revealing identity, gets bail

Written by : TNM Staff

Actor Aju Varghese was arrested on Tuesday for revealing the identity of the female actor, who was abducted and allegedly sexually assaulted in a moving car in Kochi on February 17.

He was later let off on bail.

"The arrest of Aju Varghese has been recorded today (Tuesday). He has been granted station bail later," Circle Inspector S Jayakrishnan said, reports Manorama Online.

Police had taken the statement of Aju Varghese on July 13 on a complaint filed by Girish Babu of Kalamassery.

The young actor was booked for disclosing the name of the actress in a Facebook post supporting actor Dileep who has been arrested in connection with the crime.

Police had also confiscated Aju’s mobile phone.

"Aju has admitted to naming the woman survivor and he had apologised at the time. We have now confiscated his iPhone. It is from this phone that he had updated the Facebook post. We have sent the phone for scientific examination to verify whether the post was uploaded from this device. After the results arrive, we will proceed to arrest Aju Varghese," the CI had told TNM after interrogating Aju.

On July 3, an FIR was filed against Aju Varghese. A case was also registered against him under section 22 B (A) of the IPC.

It was on June 26 that Aju Varghese revealed the name of the actress in a FB post, extending support to Dileep when the latter was facing allegations of being involved in the crime.

"Whoever the accused is, what they did is unpardonable. But what is now happening is a deliberate attempt to frame Dileep. Our literate society must understand that these two things are entirely different,” Aju had written while addressing the female actor by her name.
