Indian Union Muslim League’s (IUML) Vanitha League state president Kamarunnisa Anwar has strongly criticised her party is not fielding any women in the upcoming elections.

On Friday, Kamarunnisa blamed the insecurity of men for the complete absence of women among the candidates being fielded by the party. She said that men felt threatened that women of caliber would narrow their chances of winning.

She told Asianet news that women members in many districts were staying away from canvassing because the party had not fielded a single woman in the 24 seats that it is contesting. Women members in the districts were contemplating resigning from the league, she said.

Kamarunnisa said that she had expressed her desire to contest the elections and had remained hopeful until the list of candidate was released.
