Jisha rape and murder: ADGP B Sandhya to head investigation team

Written by : TNM Staff

With almost a month having passed with no breakthroughs in the Jisha murder case, the new Kerala government has appointed ADGP B Sandhya to head the special investigation team (SIT) enquiring into the case. The officer has also been appointed as the ADGP of the South Zone, Kerala.

"There are serious lapses in Jisha murder case probe. Unusual developments have taken place right from the time of preparation of mahasar to cremation of her body. The people of the state are not satisfied with the probe that has been conducted so far," the chief minister was quoted as saying.

The decision was taken at the first cabinet meeting held on Wednesday evening soon after the new LDF government was sworn-in.

The decision comes in the wake of public anger against the investigation team over the delay in nabbing the culprit, even weeks after the crime. One of the demands raised in several protests, including during an indefinite strike by CPI (M), was for the appointment of a woman police officer to head the investigation team.

The 30-year-old law student from Perumbavoor was found sexually assaulted and brutally killed at her home on April 28.
