The News Minute | December 14, 2014 | 11.30 am ISTMata Amritanandamayi Mutt (MAM) has once again found itself amidst a controversy after the death of a Japanese pilgrim on Friday at the Vallikkavu Ashram campus in Kollam.In a suspected case of suicide a Japanese national Ouchi Eiji, 56, was found dead at his accommodation in the ashram on Saturday. “He was found hanging from the toilet ventilator of his room in the western wing of the ashram around 8. 15 a.m” said Mohammed Shafi, Sub Inspector at Karunagappallly police station.“This is a clear case of suicide, we don’t have other suspicions. A case is registered for unnatural death. We have started investigation to find out the reasons behind the suicide” he added.According to police Eiji was a resident of the Mutt since 2012. The police have sent the body to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital for autopsy.“We don't know where he lives in Japan as many people visit, stay here and its tough to keep tab. We just had his passport and some documents, which we have already handed over to the police” said an administrator at Mutt In last three years this is the third reported unnatural death in the Mutt that has been controversial. Earlier in 2012 there were allegations against the mutt in relation to the death of a Bihar law student Satnam Singh Mann, who had disrupted Amritanandamayi's discourse at the ashram.
