The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed heatwave condition in the state after monitoring the temperatures of two consecutive days to be above 40 degrees Celsius.

Heatwave warning was earlier declared in the wake of rising temperature in the state, where cases of heat strokes has been reported.

According to Skymetweather, heat wave conditions are expected to prevail till May 3, after which pre-monsoon showers are expected to bring in respite:“Temperatures across the country will still settle above 40°C. However, no respite from heatwave is likely over Rajasthan and Kerala where day maximum will continue to rise. We can expect significant relief only by May 3 as pre-Monsoon showers are expected to increase.”

The state witnessed isolated rainfall in some places like Thiruvananthapuram and Kottayam, the IMD has advised people to be careful between 11a.m and 3p.m, when the heatwave is expected to be harsh.

The highest temperature recorded was 41.6 degrees Celsius in Palakkad.
