Horrific moral policing in Kerala: Man stripped nude, brutally assaulted

Written by : TNM Staff

In yet another incident of moral policing, and a highly disturbing one, a man was stripped naked in Kodunagallur of Thrissur district and beaten by a group of people on Saturday night.

Kodungallur Sub Inspector Rajagopal told The News Minute that Parambil Salam (47) was attacked by the mob alleging that he was found roaming around in suspicious circumstances.

“Since it was an attack from public, we need to find out who were involved and what was the exact motive. Salam was stripped nude and beaten. He has been admitted to the Kodunagallur Taluk hospital,” the officer said.

“About nine people were there in the group and they assaulted Salam alleging that he was found near a house under suspicious circumstances. Salam has given complaint to police on Sunday morning,” he added.

Police said that Salam had been assaulted for about two hours and it was after the police reached the spot that he was freed and taken to a hospital.

“He had serious injuries, and had lost few of his teeth. He had serious wounds all over his body,” the police officer said.

Some people who had watched the assault took videos and photographs and spread it through WhatsApp, said the police.

When the police arrived at the spot, Salam was found tied to an electric post using a rope, and there were no clothes on his body.

In his complaint Salam has said that he was beaten with iron rods and sticks.
