The National Women's Commission has said that they have found 25-year-old Hadiya is safe and healthy at her residence in Kottayam district.
The Rights Commission’s assertion was contrary to allegations of rights activists across the state that Hadiya was being subjected to harassment at her house by her parents.
After visiting Hadiya's home in TV Puram in Kottayam's Vaikkom on Monday afternoon, Commission’s acting Chairperson Rekha Sharma said that Hadiya was safe at her home.
Rekha spoke to media outside Hadiya's house, after reportedly interacting with her for about an hour.
“She is safe, there is no harassment. She said that she is willing to appear in court,” Rekha Sharma said.
Although the chairperson said that she did not discuss about the particulars of the legal case with Hadiya, Rekha remarked that what happens in Kerala was not love jihad, but forced religious conversions.
The National Commission's visit to Hadiya's house comes at a time when the State Women's Rights Commission has sought the Supreme Court’s permission to visit Hadiya. She has been in the custody of her parents since May this year, after the Kerala High Court annulled her marriage to a Muslim man Shafin Jahan.
A fact-finding team of the National Women's Commission is on a three-day visit to Kerala starting Monday. They are set to meet a few more families, including that of Nimisha alias Fathima, the Hindu woman who converted to Islam and left to Afghanistan to join the Islamic terror outfit ISIS. The chairperson will meet Nimisha's mother Bindu Sampath at their residence in Thiruvananthapuram.
Previously, the Kottayam SP has submitted an inquiry report to the State Human Rights Commission saying that there were no human rights violations faced by Hadiya at her home. However, the report was submitted without the police team even met the 25-year-old woman personally.
Last month, activist Rahul Easwar had released a video, in which Hadiya said:
"You need to get me out. I will be killed anytime, tomorrow or the day after, I am sure. I know my father is getting angry. When I walk, he is hitting and kicking me. If my head or any other part of my body hits somewhere and I die..."
