CPI(M) Polit Bureau on Sunday decided not to interfere with the appointment of Harvard professor Gita Gopinath as Kerala Chief Minister's economic advisor, though it does not support the decision.
Reports say that the Polit Bureau maintained that the appointment is a state government matter and that it will not ask for the appointment to be cancelled.
The final day of the two-day Polit Bureau meeting held in New Delhi was a much anticipated one, as it was slated to discuss veteran leader VS Achuthanandan's letter.
Raising objections over her appointment, Achuthanandan had on Friday sent a letter to the Polit Bureau seeking intervention in the matter.
Achuthanandan wrote that appointing Gita, an advocate of neo-liberal policies, was not in accordance with the Left ideology.
Pinarayi's LDF government has received criticism from various quarters over Gita Gopinath's appointment.
Responding to the controversy over her appointment, Gita Gopinath said in a press release that her position is honorary and assured that she will not be involved in any economic policy decisions.
