Funeral of jawan Abhijith who was killed in Kashmir to be held in Kerala

The funeral of Abhijith PS, an Indian jawan who was killed in Kashmir during a land mine explosion, will be conducted in Kerala on Wednesday. As per reports, Abhijith died on Monday while he was in duty at the Line of Control.

Jawan Abhijith PS, a native of Kollam district, had been in the army for three and a half years. He was patrolling at Baramulla on the LoC when the fatal explosion happened. There were other jawans with him as well, who suffered injuries and were hospitalised.

22-year-old Abhijith of Kizhakathil house at Alummoodu of Anchal village in Kollam district, was part of the Madras Regiment.

Abhijith had reportedly talked to his family hours before the explosion happened. “He had talked to his mother over phone on Monday morning and informed that he was going to duty. The same day in the evening, another call came saying that he was no more,” Abhijith’s uncle Santosh told The New Indian Express.

The jawan’s body was brought from Kashmir to Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday night by around 10.30 pm. As per a report in Manorama Online, the body was moved to the mortuary at Military camp in Pangode.

On Wednesday morning, Abhijith's mortal remains were brought to his house in Kollam from Thiruvananthapuram. The body will be kept for public to pay homage at the Government LP School in Idhayam, were Abhijith studied, and also at SreeNarayana hall near his house in Alummoodu later.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday expressed condolences to his family members.  

Abhijith is survived by mother Sreekala and sister Kasthuri.
