'Fire is the reason for the tragedy', temple committee members to plead in court

Written by : TNM Staff

Temple committee members arrested for the Kollam accident are likely to plead in court claiming fire to be the cause of the tragedy when their bail plea comes up for hearing in the district high court on Friday.

A fireworks display gone wrong at a temple in Paravur had caused a massive fire at the temple grounds on April 10, killing at least 108 people.

Following the accident, seven committee members were booked for flouting norms.

The committee members had earlier given a statement to the crime branch that competitive fireworks (kambam) with the use of chemical substances had caused the tragedy.
