Eleventh Kerala Assembly session starts amid protest over liquor bar bribe scam

The News Minute | December 1, 2014 | 12.25 pm ISTThe eleventh session of the Kerala Legislative Assembly began on Monday amidst protests over the Liquor Bar bribe charges levelled against state Finance Minister K M Mani.The Left Democratic Front (LDF), the main opposition party in Kerala, shouted slogans and raised placards during the Governor's address to the House, demanding Mani’s arrest. LDF leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan alleged in the assembly that Biju Ramesh's driver had given bribe to Mani. Biju Ramesh, a bar owner had earlier alleged that he had given bribe to Mani to renew the bar license.Kodiyeri has also claimed that he has a compact disk containing the evidences on bar scam but the Deputy speaker refused to keep the disk on table as prior permission is needed to play it. The Speaker rejected the opposition's demand to discuss the bar scam in the assembly.Protesting against the government’s attitude on the Bar issue, the opposition walked out of the assembly.
