Months after a viral video in which a toddler asked for biryani and chicken fry instead of upma at an anganwadi in Kerala, the government has revised the food menu. The new menu includes egg biryani or egg pulao every Tuesday. Veena George, the minister for Women and Child Development, announced the revised menu on Tuesday, 4 June, during the state-level inauguration of the re-opening of anganwadis in the state.
The video of a three-year-old boy, Trijal S Sundar, nicknamed Sanku from Devikukam in Idukki, went viral in January. Following the viral video, Veena George assured to review the food menu.
Announcing the new menu, Veena George said, “After Sanku’s viral video, we thought, what can we do? Earlier, we used to give eggs two days a week, now it is changing to three a week and one day the children will get egg biryani.”
After the announcement, Sanku spoke with the media and expressed his happiness. “I am happy. I don't want eggs, I only want biryani,” he said. However, according to his mother, from this year onwards, he will be joining school.
In a Facebook post, the minister said, this is the first time in the state that a standardised food menu is being prepared.
