Written by : TNM Staff

A DYFI activist was allegedly hacked to death in Kerala’s Alappuzha district on Friday afternoon.

Jishnu, 24, who was the joint secretary of Karuvatta North region in the district, was reportedly attacked by a group of eight men, while he was traveling on his bike.

According to local media reports, Jishnu was waiting near Karuvatta railway gate when the attackers approached him.

Though Jishnu tried to flee the scene, the attackers chased him and hacked him. Reports indicate that it took the onlookers a few minutes before they could muster up the courage to inform the police about the incident, since the attackers had created panic at the scene.

Though the police rushed him to a nearby hospital, Jishnu succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital and was declared brought dead.

At the time of the attack, Jishnu was accompanied by his friend and another DYFI member Swaraj, who also sustained injuries in the attack.

The CPI (M) was quick to demand an enquiry into the alleged political murder. The DYFI district committee has decided to hold a condolence meeting on Saturday.

However, Kayamkulam DySP K Rajesh told media that Jishnu's killing was not politically motivated. The senior police officer added that the murder was a result of clashes between rival quotation groups.

Haripad Sub-Inspector Baiju confirmed to The News Minute that a case of murder has been registered against unknown persons.
