The Angamaly Magistrate Court on Saturday extended the judicial custody of Malayalam actor Dileep till September 16.

The prominent actor, who was arrested on July 10 in connection with the abduction and alleged sexual assault of a woman actor, has since been in judicial custody.

The Magistrate Court extended his custody, after his custody period came to an end on Saturday.

According to reports, Dileep was not produced before the court in person, but appeared through video conferencing on Skype from Aluva sub-jail, where he is currently lodged.

Meanwhile, the actor also filed a fresh petition seeking permission to attend his father’s death anniversary, which was granted by the Magistrate Court.

The ritual is due to take place on September 6. Dileep can attend the rituals at his house and at Aluva Manappuram (the river side where death rituals are usually conducted). The court allotted two hours for the actor for this purpose. He will have to return to jail on same day, and will be attending the rituals with police escort.

Dileep is the eleventh accused in the case, charged under Sections 120 (B), 342, 366, 376 (D), 411, 506 (1), 201, 212 and 34 IPC and sections 66 (E) and 67 (A) of the Information Technology Act, 2008.

On August 29, the Kerala High Court had rejected Dileep's bail plea a second time.
