Day care security guard arrested for allegedly sexually abusing 3-year-old in Ernakulam

Thrikkakara police arrested a 63-year-old man from Ernakulam for allegedly sexually abusing a 3-year-old girl child on Saturday.

Chandrasekharan, the security guard at Sam Kids Day Care Centre in Kakkanad in the district, was the only male staff-member at the centre, say police.

The arrest was made based on a complaint filed by the child’s parents late on Friday night. The incident came to light when the girl child complained to her parents of pain in her private parts, after returning from the day care on Friday.

Medical tests revealed that the child had been sexually abused, following which, the parents filed a police complaint against a staff-member at the centre.

“The child referred to the man as ‘chettan’ (brother), and it is only after speaking to her further that we realised the man was the security guard at the centre. Since the day care remains shut during the weekend, we have not yet recorded the statements of the day care authorities,” Thrikkakara Sub-Inspector Shaju told The News Minute.

Chandrasekharan was arrested on Saturday from his residence and has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He will be produced in the Judicial Magistrate Court in Kakkanad on Sunday, say police.
