CPI (M) MLA Shamseer goes the Kodiyeri way; says will reciprocate attacks

Toeing the line taken by party state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, CPI (M) MLA AN Shamseer said on Wednesday that his party would reciprocate attacks.

The MLA from Thalassery was speaking at a DYFI programme held in Kanjirappally in Kottayam district.

It was only a month ago that Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s speech at Payyannur in Kannur district had raked up a controversy, when he had said, “If someone comes to attack us, they should not go back as they came.”

His words were interpreted by the BJP as an open call for violence.

MLA Shamseer’s speech has only cemented Kodiyeri’s words.

“We will reciprocate if attacked, there is no doubt in that. We’ll hit out at them, good and proper,” he said.

Invoking a Malayalam proverb, Kodiyeri had indicated that one would be paid their due for their actions, thereby justifying the 'defensive attack'.

Taking it a step forward, MLA Shamseer ‘simplified’ the equation saying that one would only be paid their due for doing work, indicating that the CPI (M) would only retaliate if attacked, but would not attack on its own.

“RSS has always provided training to its members to attack others,” he said.

He also said that it was the realization that RSS attacks could be prevented that had brought success to both DYFI and the Left.

“So, we will not set that foot back, there’s no doubt that we will reciprocate their attack. Whenever it is,” he added.
