CPI(M) leaders Karayi Rajan and Karayi Chandrashekharan, known as Karayi brothers, the accused in the murder of Popular Front of India (PFI) activist Mohammed Fazal and Kannur District Panchayat President and Thalassery Municipal Chairman respectively, are likely to be removed from their positions by the party.

 The Kerala High Court had earlier rejected their petition seeking permission to enter their district Kannur. The CBI, which is enquiring Fazal murder case had restricted the candidates from entering Kannur district until the case was over.

 Though Kerala High Court had granted the brothers permission to file nominations, this time HC rejected their petition to enter their panchayath and municipality to take care of the administration.

 Since head of the both local bodies were not present in the district the officials had to travel to Ernakulam district to sign files. Congress party has been protesting against it for a while.

 Media reports say that CPI (M) had expected the court to grant permission for them to return to Kannur since it had allowed them to visit the place to file nominations during local body elections.

 The Times of India reports that with the assembly elections round the corner, the party is now likely to remove them from their positions. Party sources said discussions were on and a decision was likely soon.

“I am exploring the possibility of moving an appeal, not because I want to be in power, but I'm more concerned about the trauma that my family is going through,” Karayi Rajan told ToI
