Courts in Kochi to start trials via video conferencing

The News Minute | November 10, 2014 | 9.25 am ISTVideo conferencing system connecting jails with sessions court and magistrate courts in Kochi will start functioning from Monday. The system facilitates the direct examination of the accused under custody by the judges.“Around 20 courts in the city will start using the system. The required equipment has been installed at Ernakulam district jail and sub jails. A room has been set up at the district court complex from where judges and magistrate can examine the accused” an official told The New Indian Express.As per the report, if there is a shortage of policemen to accompany the accused to the court, the accused can participate in court proceeding via video conferencing.
