The Congress leadership in Kerala had alleged that in Anthoor municipality of Kannur district, the CPI(M) was threatening UDF candidates who were ready to contest in local polls, and forcing them to forgo their seats.

Member of Parliament, K Sudhakaran alleged that CPI (M) threatened and locked up Congress candidates in Anthoor Municipality and stopped them from giving nominations.

Following nominations of four Congress candidates being rejected on Thursday by Election Commission for late submissions, 14 candidates fielded by the CPI(M) in newly formed Anthoor municipality will be elected unopposed.

According to Manoramaonline, all the 10 women candidates fielded by CPI(M) were already in the winning list as no other party dared to contest the polls there.

The CPI(M) is hopeful that the nominations of more Congress candidates will be rejected.

However CPI (M) said that Congress did not get find any eligible candidates to field and it was not CPI (M)’s fault.

With this, Anthoor has become the first municipality in Kerala where a party wins in all wards (28 wards) unopposed.
