Case against Swiss national Jonathan Baud over Maoist links suspended

The News Minute | December 2, 2014 | 07.18 pm ISTKerala High court suspended the case against Swiss national Jonathan Baud, who was arrested for allegedly having Maoist links. Baud had allegedly attended a meeting organised in memory of Sinoj, a Maoist activist from Kerala who was killed while making country bombs in Andhra-Karnataka border last month.The court ordered the state government to arrange Jonathan’s return to Switzerland. Jonathan had been charged under the Foreigners Act, Section 14(b), which pertains to the violation of visa conditions. The court criticized police for the arrest and said that attending the meeting cannot be considered as a violation of visa conditions.Baud (24), was arrested on July 28 for allegedly attending the meeting which was organised by Maoists and Naxalite sympathisers. Sinoj belonged to Valappad in Kerala.
