The News Minute| December 8, 2014| 5.00 pm ISTIn a huge setback to DLF, the Kerala High Court on Monday asked the state government to demolish an apartment complex  built by the real estate giant near Chilavannoor backwaters in Kochi. The High court order says that DLF built the apartment complex in violation of the Coastal Regulation Zone [CRZ] Act. The High Court has also said that DLF cannot go ahead with any further construction at the site.Passing the order, a single bench headed by Justice A.V. Ramakrishna Pillai said that such constructions were a danger to society, and as environment was precious to society, a minority cannot be allowed to take advantage.The court also criticised the Kochi corporation for giving permission for construction. Around nine builders are constructing nineteen towers near the backwaters. The court's decision was based on a report submitted by a three-member committee of the Kerala Coastal Zone Management Authority (KCZMA) that had probed into the allegations of violation of CRZ Act.The report had pointed out that some of the constructions had encroached upon the shores of the backwaters, while others posed a threat to natural paddy fields in the vicinity.
