Bizarre: Kerala official gets water bill of 40 lakh, helpline unresponsive

Written by : Luke Koshi

This Kerala police officer got the shock of his life on Saturday when he checked his water bill online. The bill showed charges of close to Rs 40 lakh for consumption of nearly 1 lakh units.

Talking to The News Minute, cyber cell SP Vinay Kumar said, “We are a family of 3 and I normally get a bill of Rs 200 to Rs 300. But this came as a shock to me as the bill payment section showed such an astronomical amount which I never expected.”

A resident of Thiruvananthapuram, Vinay says it could be due to a faulty meter, which registered the reading of the units incorrectly. This is the first time that he has received such a bill. The last date for payment without fine is April 2.

When he called the water authority office on their helpline to enquire, there was no response. Now, he plans to approach their office directly on Monday to rectify the issue.
