A Malayalam video song with a sarcastic criticism of the media in Kerala that’s been crowd-produced - in a manner of speaking – is growing in popularity.

Titled Kulam Kara Avalathy, the song begins with a riddle asked in the voice of an elderly man: The truth jumps into the pond (Kulam) and lie jumps onto the land (Kara). What is it?

Produced with the cooperation of around 300 people, the video of the song features people between seven and 70 who appear on screen, singing the song.

The song was critical of the absurd theory propagated by many media houses that it was the director of the film Premam who had leaked the copies of the print which had been submitted to the censor board. Even the solar scam and bar bribery scams find mention in the song – especially the solar commisision’s hunt for the CD the accused Saritha Nair claimed she had. The writers of the song also allege that the media which critically approached the bar scam also glorified KM Mani, who is an accused in the case.

By calling the TV as a ‘lie box’ the video seeks to suggest that news reports about all political parties are exaggerated, twisted or buried.

Towards the end, the song says a machine was necessary to locate the truth from all the lies propagated by the media.
