After 20 people lost about Rs 4.5 lakhs in the ATM heist in Thiruvananthapuram a day earlier, the Mumbai Police on Tuesday arrested the chief fraudster identified as Gabriel Marian Illie. Further details about him are awaited.

The culprit was traced to a hotel at Worli in Mumbai, following information provided by the Kerala Police. According to sources in the state police, a transit warrant will be issued to bring him to Kerala for gathering of evidence.

"We have been tracking him since Tuesday morning with the help of cyber experts. Finally, we tracked him down at a hotel and we informed our Mumbai counterparts. Soon, they will hand over him to Kerala police after the legal procedures. We will also arrest the other persons involved after interrogating him in detail", said DCP G Sivavikaram, speaking to The New Indian Express.

The News Minute had earlier reported about the incident in which three foreigners were allegedly involved in one of the biggest ATM frauds in Kerala.

The state’s Special Investigation Team had obtained CCTV video from the SBI ATM at Althara Junction near Vellayambalam, where all the fraudulent transactions were carried out.
