The News Minute | July 7, 2014 | 4:40 PM IST  About 100 cadres of the Comminist Party of India (M) from the Mulanthuruthy area committee of the party in Ernakulam joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. Reports say that the movement to the BJP came as a result of long factional politics that has been plaguing the party in this area.  The Harijan Colony in Mulanthuruthy witnessed a large of number of people including women switch to BJP. Interestingly, the colony was earlier perceived to be a stronghold of the Left. Reports say that the movement was initiated by former branch president Janardhanan, and a number of his followers from CPI (M) and CITU followed him.Janardhanan told Reporter TV, a Malayalam news channel that the Left’s leaders have been ignoring the base level workers and hence the group decided to move to BJP.  BJP’s General Secretary MA Madhu welcomed the new members of the party. Malayalam news channel, Reporter TV suggests that this is just a start, apparently about 150 CPI (M) workers from Koothattukulam area in Ernakulam are also preparing to quit the party and get BJP membership.Reports also suggest that about 150 members of the CPI (M) from Koothattukulam area in Ernakulam are also planning to move to BJP. The CPI (M) leadership has not reacted to the issue yet.
